April Tettemer is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in New York, located in Manhattan. April received her education in California, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Studio Art at San Jose State University. After discovering a passion for the therapeutic aspects of art, she received her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy with a specialization in Art Therapy from Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, CA.

April has many years experience working with clients from a range of ages and cultural backgrounds with different psychological and mental wellness needs. She has also worked with clients in multiple clinical settings including private practice, inpatient, and outpatient settings.

April specializes in working with clients with anxiety disorders, depression, grief and bereavement, and traumatic disorders. She also works with those who would like to improve mental wellness, work/life balance, and quality of relationships. She utilizes classic therapy modalities with creative arts therapy techniques to help her clients reach their goals. She emphasizes working together with the client to create treatment goals and recognizes the importance of a multicultural lens and the egalitarian approach in therapy.

Does this therapist take my insurance?

Not at this time. The therapy rate is $100/hr and the therapist offers sliding scale pricing. Therapist can also provide an invoice to provide your insurance for reimbursement. Therapy fees are collected at the end of each session.

What are the benefits of paying out-of-pocket for therapy?

For some clients paying this way is a better fit. Insurance companies can sometimes limit the amount of sessions a client can have per year, seek your health records and therapy notes and often mandate a diagnosis for coverage. Some client’s would like discretion for employment and other purposes. Please reach out to your insurance if you have coverage and discuss your options for reimbursement or coverage.
